Messy studios

How messy is your work space? Mine is a diaster! I have fabric overflowing on the guest bed, on the quilt rack and everywhere in between. Yet somehow, it all works for me. My mess lets me work on multiple projects depending on my mood.

Every now and again, I clean up. The down side of this is that it then takes FOREVER to find anything! Just think, before I had kids I was actually a super neat, super organized person. What happened?

Environmentally Friendly Batt

I am debating on whether to order a quilt batt made from recycled plastic bottles. I believe that it is great stuff for the environment, but is it great for my quilts? That is the question. A queen sized batt uses 20 plastic bottles. That is great, but I use cotton in my quilts and normally I use natural products in my batts.

My favorite batt is wool. I love to handquilt and there is nothing better than wool. The needle truely glides through the batt like butter. I know, sounds dorky, but true. Of course wool is pricey, so I use cotton batts instead.

I guess the only way to know is to try the quilt green batt and see how it goes. Now to find a local dealer.....

This is a picture of my new notepad organizer. I am always losing pads of paper and my thank you cards, so I made this. You can view it in my shop www.quiltdream.etsy.com

Quilt Batt

I have a quilt top waiting to be quilted. It is brightly coloured pinwheels on a white background. I need to decide whether to hand quilt or send it out to be machined. Before I decide that I really need to make my mind up about the batting. I love wool batt for handquilting, it is so easy to work with, but mine is a cream colour. I worry that it might darken the white of the quilt. I'd love to try bamboo - but was told it shrinks 5%. Any ideas anyone? Any experiences?

I'd love to hear from you.

Since I sell my quilts, I'd love to hear from those of you who buy quilts!!

How much fabric to buy?

I went to my local Quilt shop to get my Bom and instead spent $100 on fabric! How much is too much? She had the Butterfy Fling by Moda in and I had to have it! I decided to get 1 meter of each of 6 bolts. Now I have an idea and need to back for more. I always find that I meter is just enough for future projects as long as it is not background fabric.

I rarely buy background fabric until I have a project to put it into. The exception is if it is a really good sale. In that case I buy between 5 to 7 meters, as that is what most quilt patterns call for.

In the end it comes down to what you can afford and how much is on the bolt.

Check out the shop - I just put a couple of summer bags for women on it.

my first blog

I thought I would start a blog just to see how it was done. I have started to sell quilts and crayon bags on etsy, so this seemed the next logical step.

Check out my shop at quiltdream.etsy.com

Now if I can only figure out how to put pictures on this thing...
